Cohasset Youth Baseball and Softball Association - CYBSA

Farm League

  1. Every coach will know and adhere to the CYBSA “Code of Conduct”
  2. Farm League is exclusively an ‘introduction to baseball’ program and NOT intended to be competitive.  It is designed to educate children on the basic elements of baseball.  Children should be instructed in the fundamental principles of batting, catching, throwing, base running and fielding. Each regular season game should conclude at the end of the first full inning after the game has been in progress for 90 minutes.  All games should start promptly in order to complete as many innings as possible.
  3. Each team’s roster must be finalized and submitted in writing to the League Coordinator on or before April 12th, unless otherwise notified.  In the event that a roster opening becomes available, it must be reported to the Farm League Coordinator within 48 hours.
  4. Notwithstanding other provisions, coaches must call the game when conditions become potentially dangerous for the players.  The safety of the players is paramount and must be the first consideration of the coaches.  Note:  Both teams will assume responsibility for maintaining safe playing conditions at the field at all times.
  5. All equipment must be kept at all times in the ‘on deck’ cage, in the dugout or in a secure location away from the playing field.
  6. Only the ‘at bat’ player will have / swing a bat.  No ‘on-deck’ swinging. The ‘on-deck’ and the ‘in the hole’ batters should only have on their helmets with no bats in hand!
  7. A coach will place the ball on the ‘tee’ and remove the ‘tee’ after the ball is put in play should a play at home plate be anticipated.
  8. Bunting is not permitted and there are not strikeouts, walks or steals and NO SCORE IS KEPT.
  9. Should the full roster bat without recording three outs, a coach of the team ‘at bat’ should tactfully announce the last batter to the coaches of the team in the field and end the inning with completion of this last player’s ‘at-bat’.
  10. All helmets must be equipped with approved facemasks / cages and worn by all batters / base runners.
  11. Every player should play every inning in the field and should be rotated to different positions throughout the game as practical and sufficient for their education.
  12. If a ball travels less than 5 feet in fair territory or if the batter inadvertently hits the ‘tee’ and not the ball, it will be considered to be a foul ball.
  13. All batters must hit from the CYBSA approved hitting ‘tee’.  Coaches should not deviate from this rule.
  14. Coaches are permitted on the field for instructional purposes.  Coaches are not permitted to touch a ‘live’ ball, but are encouraged to instruct players on proper fielding techniques.

All other situations, unless specifically addressed here within or by some other / future CYBSA memo, are governed by the Williamsport Little League Rulebook.  Each team has been provided this handbook and it is the responsibility of each team’s coaching staff to be familiar with its contents and provisions.
